Tufan HİÇDÖNMEZ
Dr. Lütfi Kırdar Kartal Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, İstanbul,Türkiye Spinal lipomas is one of the most common form of congenital occult spinal disraphysm, and the cause of tethered cord syndrome. In clinical pediatric neurosurgical practice, there are two distinct types of spinal lipoma: lipomyelomeningocele, and lipoma of the filum terminale. Lipomyelomeningocele is classified into three forms as dorsal, caudal, and transitional. The goal of surgery is to remove the lipoma mass, restore the neural tube at the distal spinal cord, untether the spinal cord, prevent dural adhesion, and therefore spinal cord retethering.
