Degenerative lumbar spinal canal stenosis is one of the most common causes of pain and dysfunction in the lower extremities. In the pathogenesis of lumbar stenosis, interactions and changes in both the facet joints and intervertebral discs play a central role. There is intense controversy in the "surgical intervention for conservative treatment" studies related to the management of these disorders. Medical evidence of the basic treatment of degenerative lumbar stenosis and spondylolisthesis is at level III for instrumentation and fusion. Although studies have shown the superiority of the surgery over conservative treatment, there is no consensus on the type of surgery and the role of instability in these studies.
