Sagittal Synostosis
Mevlüt Özgür TAŞKAPILIOĞLU1
Sagittal synosytosis resulting from early closure of the sagittal suture is the most common craniosynostosis. If there is a bulge in the sagittal suture, this is called scaphocephaly. Sagittal synosytosis can be syndromic or non-syndromic. Although the most common reason for hospital admission is cosmetic reasons, patients should be carefully examined to prevent increased intracranial pressure and neurocognitive disorders. Three-dimensional computerized tomography is the gold standard for diagnosis, planning of treatment, and follow-up. In the treatment, the timing of the surgery and the choice of the method to be applied should be patient-specific. It should be kept in mind that this surgery, which is applied at an early age, may be open to complications. In untreated patients, findings due to increased intracranial pressure and neurocognitive disorders can be seen. As in all treatments for craniosynostosis, the treatment of sagittal synosytosis is a team effort. Anahtar Kelimeler : Craniosynostosis, Sagittal suture, Scaphocephaly
