The principles of neurological examination in children show some differences compared to adults due to the ongoing growth and development. For instance, head circumference measurement, which has limited use in adults, is one of the indispensable tools of pediatric neurosurgery follow-up. The age group of the child also determines the method of examination. Observational findings and anamnesis from parents or relatives are of great value, especially since it is difficult to establish communication and cooperation during the newborn, infancy, and early childhood periods. Taking a comprehensive history and subsequent physical and neurological examination are important in planning the diagnostic approaches and treatment. In this section, neurological development stages that vary according to different age groups, physiological and pathological physical examination findings, and classifications specific to pediatric neurosurgery practice such as the pediatric coma scale will be discussed.
