1Aksaray Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Merkez, Aksaray, Türkiye The insula is the lateral component of the cerebral central core and hidden by the opercula. It serves many functions such as motor, sense, speech, autonomic regulation, consciousness and emotion. When the insula cortex is resected, the extreme capsule consisting of short association fibers first emerges. Subsequently, as the short association fibers removed, both the external capsule and the gray matter of the claustrum on the external capsule become exposed. Both the claustrum and the external capsule are examined ventrally, and dorsally. The ventral external capsule consists of the uncinate fascicle inferiorly and the inferior frontooccipital fascicle superiorly. The dorsal external capsule on the other hand forms the claustrocortical fibers. Deeper within, additional components of the central core become apparent. In this article, insula connections are presented through our cadaver dissections in the light of recent literature. Anahtar Kelimeler : White matter, Anatomy, Insula
