PROGNOSTIC VALUE OF CT FINDING IN ACUTE STROKE
Ankara Numune Hastanesi Nöroloji Kliniği, Ankara
Prognostic value of Computed Tomography (CT) findings in defining early mortality risk in acute stroke has been studied with different studies and various results were obtained. In this subject, the localisation and nature of the lesion have been accepted as important points. This study was planned for evaluating relationship among lesion type, localisation, associated edema, mass effect, periventricular hipodensity, atrophy, old infarct on the CT in early phase of acute stroke and prognosis. 154 patients admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of acute stroke between January 1993 and May 1994 were included in the study. The CT findings obtained between days 2nd and 7th from the onset of stroke were evaluated. The patients who had haematological disorders, hepatic disease, malignity, MI and infection were excluded because of the effect of this disorders on prognosis. Data were analysed using the logistic regression model. In model including all variables, involvement of the basal ganglia region (p=0,001), lesion of the cerebellum (p=0,023), the presence of old infarct (p=0,025) and the presence of edema (p=0,046) were found as poor prognostic indicators. The other variables were found not important for determining early mortality as statistically. The results we obtained, were argued comparing by the results of the previous studies.
