5Celal Bayar Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Manisa Many information about the mechanism of midline fusion defects have been obtained, parallel with the advancement in medicine, but unfortunately there have been some unclear points. Different methods have been used to investigate the mechanism. In some of the experiments, toxic materials have been used to investigate the underlying causes. The main purpose of our experiment, is to search the possibility of inducing midline fusion defects with Verapamil-HCl and if so, to comment on the mechanism. The effects of V erapamil- HCl, calcium channel antagonist, which has been also used in human in some forms of cardiac problems, has been searched in avian embryos. 71 Hubbard Broil, fertile eggs were incubated with albumen and albumen/Verapamil-HCl mixture for 24 hours, and the embryos were checked for midline fusion defect.
