Spontaneus Intraorbital Hematoma: Case Report
Bezmialem Vakıf Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, İstanbul, Türkiye
Intraorbital hematomas are rare entities. They are often associated with orbital
trauma, surgery of orbital environment, blood diseases such as hemophilia,
and neoplasms. In literature, development of a phenomenon of a spontaneous
orbital hematoma without a reason, consists of a few cases. We present one case
of spontaneous intraorbital hematoma in a patient without a reason. We report a
54-year-old woman who was admitted to our clinic with the complaints of her left
eye clouding and decreasing of vision, watering and swelling in a few months.
Cranial and orbital MRI revealed a haemorrhagic mass in the localization of
retrobulbar – intrakonal of left eye. After radiological assessment, haemorrhagic
mass was removed by left frontoparietal craniotomy. Her visual complaints and
exophtalmus were improved in the early postoperative period. Trauma, neoplasm,
blood disease and vascular anomalies belonging to an evidence were not found.
Surgical decompression should be considered primarily in rare spontaneus
intraorbital hematoma.
