S.B. Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye
Cyst hydatic is a parasitary disease caused by ecinnococus larvas and it commonly
seen in places where animal breeding is a common occupation. Central nerve
system involvement of cyst hydatic is a rare issue. Multiple placed primary cranial
involvement is rarely seen in adults. They generally locate in the distribution
of multiple cerebral artery. Brain involvement occurs in 1-2% in Echinococcus
granulosus infections. Approximately 75% of intracranial cyst hydatids are
encountered in children. Cerebral cyst hydatid is generally of single, round
and unilocular appearance. They do not demonstrate serious symptoms until
they reach large sizes. Serological tests as well as imaging methods, especially
in cranial involvements, are of great value in the diagnosis of cyst hydatid. The
most curative method is to enucleate of the cyst without bursting it by Dowling's
technique, and rinsing the operation cavity with hypertonic sodium chloride. In
this paper a multiple primary intracranial adult cyst hydatid case is presented.
