Endoscopic Endonasal Management of a Giant Frontoethmoidal Mucosele with Orbital Extension
Ankara Numune Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, Nöroşirürji Kliniği, Ankara, Türkiye
Paranasal sinus mucoceles are cystic, slow growing and benign lesions which arise from sinus mucosa. They usually appear after infection,
trauma or develop because of the lesions obstructing sinus osteum and disrupting the sinus drainage. These lesions are located must frequently
in the frontal sinus, followed by anterior ethmoidal, maxillary, sphenoid and posterior ethmoideal sinuses. When settled in frontoethmoidal
region, mucoceles usually cause orbital compression symptoms such as propitosis, gaze palsy, diplopia and palpebral swelling. Although there
have been many surgical techniques defined for the treatment of these lesions, in our case, endoscopic endonasal management of a huge
frotoethmodial mucocele with orbital extension was presented. Expansive usage of endoscope in endonasal approaches was becoming the
technique of choice for removing these lesions without size consideration.
