Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Antalya, Türkiye Subependymomas are rare, benign and usually asymptomatic neoplasms. They are mostly detected with routine imaging or autopsy studies. Large tumors may be symptomatic due to obstruction of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways or neural compression. They occasionally demonstrate malignant characteristics in radiological and histopathological studies. Complete excision is usually curative. Subependymal giant cell astrocytomas are benign tumors that originate from the ventricular region neighbouring the foramen of Monro. These lesions are pathognomomic for tuberous sclerosis, an autosomal dominant and multisystem syndrome. Cortical tubers or subependymal nodules may also be found in tuberous sclerosis. Hydrocephalus may develop due to impaired CSF circulation. Total surgical removal is needed for symptomatic cases.
