1Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Antalya, Türkiye Positional molding is a skull deformity developing due to exposure to mechanical factors in the mother"s womb and/or early postpartum period. One needs to distinguish whether an abnormal head shape in an infant is primarily due to craniosynostosis or associated with positional molding in terms of the appropriate treatment and in order to avoid the sequels that can be encountered in the long term. In positional skull deformities, the cranial sutures are open and functional and there is no evidence of intracranial pressure increase. The anamnesis and physical examination are important in the diagnosis. Pediatricians or primary health care professionals should train other healthcare personnel working in neonatal care units as well as parents on the diagnosis and management of positional skull deformities.
