¹Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye Molecular and genetic research in Neuro-oncology has provided new perspectives on the oncogenesis and progression of central nervous system tumors. The World Health Organization (WHO) classification for central nervous system tumors was changed in 2016 to develop an integrated, multi-layer diagnostic model and to integrate molecular markers into the classical histopathological features. These molecular markers have helped classify glioma cases and determine the response to the treatment as well as paving the way for individual treatments. Having parallel, fast, and reliable tests with multiple indicator focuses available at an acceptable cost is desirable. In this paper, the correlation of molecular genetic markers with gliomas and new approaches to this field is discussed with a recent literature review.
