Deep Brain Stimulation: New Techniques and Technologies

Deep brain stimulation surgery is a multi-component surgical method in which battery technologies, imaging methods, planning stations, electrodes, neurophysiological recordings and surgical equipment are used. Technological developments have affected and continue to affect these components in different ways. Frame systems are already frequently used in deep brain stimulation surgery. The development of frameless neuronavigation systems and robotic systems also continues. Again, the development of wireless programming systems and the use of rechargeable batteries have been developments that increase the comfort of patients. MR-guided focused ultrasonography technology, which has been used in the field of neurosurgery in recent years, offers non-invasive treatment in selected movement disorder patients. However, all these developments and digital transformation have brought the possibility of remote intervention in patients" data and devices.
