¹Hacettepe Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Nöroşirürji Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye The incidence of secondary tumors is currently increasing, with cranial radiotherapy becoming an important treatment modality. In addition to being the most common primary brain tumor, meningiomas are also the most common secondary brain tumors after cranial radiotherapy. The fact that patients with radiation-induced meningiomas are younger at the time of diagnosis, and experience multiple tumors, more frequent histologically atypical lesions, and a more aggressive course of the disease distinguish these tumors from other meningiomas. Although most of these meningiomas are treated with surgery or radiotherapy, some of them (World Health Organization Grade 2-3) are aggressive and have significantly worse cure rates. The aim of this article is to review the current information about radiation-induced meningiomas, which constitute a different pathologic entity from sporadic meningiomas with their clinical, histopathological, immunohistochemical and biological features.
