1Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Beyin ve Sinir Cerrahisi Anabilim Dalı, Ankara, Türkiye Telemedicine, which is mostly used in rural areas to ensure access to healthcare services in regions where such access is limited, has also found use in neurosurgery with the development of technology. Since ancient times, people have used communication technologies to share health information. Thanks to the development of communication technologies, health information can now be shared with a simple phone call. The instantaneous transmission of radiological images to health centers has enabled rapid diagnosis and become lifesaving in neurosurgery practice. Head traumas can be managed quickly with telemedicine, patients requiring emergency surgery can be transported to the centers quickly, and unnecessary referrals can be prevented by recommending followup in non-surgical cases. Post-surgical follow-up of patients can also be provided quickly and at low cost through telemedicine. The Covid-19 outbreak and its restrictions have demonstrated the importance of telemedicine for the healthcare system. Preoperative evaluations of patients have become possible with this technology. It is thought that the processing of large amounts of patient data with the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning systems in telemedicine will find wider use in neurosurgery practice in the future. In this article, the development of telemedicine is reviewed together with its applications in neurosurgery practice. Anahtar Kelimeler : Telehealth, Telemedicine, Teleradiology
